The Rheinbahn offers its 220 million yearly passengers a wide range of options to get around in the city. With car sharing, Rheinbahn have an ideal complement to the already existing fleet of city / subways, trams and buses.
Getting from A to B in Düsseldorf
Stadtbahn, or Light Rail System
The Stadtbahn is the light rail system in Düsseldorf (and beyond) which makes it really easy to get around. The tickets for the Stadtbahn are available from most tram stops: just pick a ticket and validate it at the stamp box on board. There are three main ticket types: the Kurzstrecke (short ticket) which is valid for 30 minutes, the A-class ticket which is valid for 90 minutes, and the day ticket which runs through until 2am. There are also options for tickets that go to suburban areas of Düsseldorf, or you can visit Neuss on the U75 or Ratingen on the U72.
The tram is another great option for getting around the city. There are 7 tram lines in the city (numbered between 701 and 709) which serve a total of 178 stops. The tram connects with the Stadtbahn at many locations, and the tickets are valid for both forms of transport, meaning you will never miss a connection.
Another popular transport option in Düsseldorf is the bus. Typically, the buses run less frequently than the Stadtbahn or tram services, but go to many more destinations, making them a good option for those who want to get off the beaten path. They also service the suburbs and more rural areas, which are great for exploring the full length of the city.
S-Bahn or Local Rail
The S-Bahn is the way to go if you want to explore the wider region. The network covers Düsseldorf as part of the Rhine-Ruhr region, meaning that you can easily get to Dortmund, Duisburg, Essen, or even Cologne. Around 130 million people ride the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn every year on one of the 13 lines and 124 stations, making it a great and reliable option for getting around the area.
If you prefer to explore the city by car, DriveNow offers the possibility to easily rent state-of-the-art BMW and MINI models all over the city through their app.
